You must love the month of October. College football, NFL, MLB
playoffs, and the start of NHL! I hope we all find time to play a little golf.
Speaking of golf if you are in the Wesley Chapel area I highly
recommend you try Pop Stroke, miniature golf at its finest. A Tiger
Woods creation it gives you the feel like you are on a real golf course.
You can eat, drink, and play golf all right there, give it a try. As most of
you were at our last golf scramble and lunch, I would personally like to
thank on behave of our board Mr. Tom Bisanti for giving us insight on
the first tee program of central Florida he works with in helping kids get
started in golf as well as building character and values. Tom and the first
tee greatly appreciate the generous donation of $500 our board
president Bill Gurbisz presented to Tom on behalf of our CHMGA!
Congratulations to both Larry Smallwood for eagle on 8-27 and Paul
Siders who made eagle on 9-4. Let’s us take a look at some recent
results from league play.
Scramble
August 20
Flight 1: 52-Jeff Richardson, Wes Wendt, Larry Smallwood, Marvin
Jendro. 55-Jeffry Holmes, Larry Skoch, Paul Randles, Dutch Schulze. 56
Mike Gleason, Ron Lombardo, Carl Forsberg, Bruce Rothenberg.
Best Ball A/B and C/D
August 27
A/B: Tie at 67- Alphonse Gambardella, Randy Kajewski.
Welcome to the heat, July has arrived. For you snowbirds who headed
back north and cooler temperatures enjoy those golf days in the 70’s.
Your board met on June 6 th but I could not attend as I have undergone
rotator cuff surgery and will be sidelined until late fall. Hope to be
ready to play in the cool fall weather. I believe our membership is right
at 170 so again thank you all. Please keep in mind we will be looking at
tee box assignments in July so if you qualify for a shorter tee box,
please fill out request form in golf shop and drop into our lock box on
side of shop. I again would like to remind all golfers that carts need to
remain 30 feet from all tees and greens and this includes those with a
handicap sticker too. If anyone has new ideas on the games, we play
please talk to one of us and it will be discussed. Here are some of our

With the start of February finally here let us all forget about the chilly December and first couple weeks of January that we have had to played in. I have had to buy additional pants since it has not been short either.

Let me start with a couple of housekeeping items that we need to bring up. I wanted to make sure you are all aware of our hole-in-one club we have for league play. It is $5.00 and you can print the form from our website which is www.chmga.org. If you are fortunate enough to get an ace you will collect the pot of money. Just fill out the form and leave in our drop box or take in to golf shop. We currently have around 60 members in the club. We did have a hole in one couple months ago and the member was not in the club at that time.

If during play outside of league and you do not get to finish the last few holes you need to put your hole by hole in our USGA GHIN handicap system. The system will then generate the remaining holes based on your handicap. We are working hard in trying to make all golfers get every score in the system that they play to be fairer and more equitable to all golfers. Speaking of handicaps as promised your board reviewed around 8 request to allow members to move up to a new shorter tee box so they could enjoy this wonderful game better. All requests were honored and the golf staff has made the appropriate changes going forward. We will again look at the request in July after our board meeting and adjust as necessary. Remember the formula for tee box assignments can be found on website as well. For some of our newer members it is based on adding your age and handicap index together and that number will assign you to the proper tee box. Your board is always looking for ways to make our association even better so if you have any ideas that you think we should investigate please grab a board member and have a chat. The board members can be found on the website as well so do not be afraid to ask. While you are on the site you can also visit the past months minutes as well. Keep your schedule open for February 6 as this will be our scramble and lunch event which is a way of thanking all our members. We will again run a 50-50 raffle as it was a big hit at our annual meeting. Let us look at some of our recent winners during league play.

Play golf, meet new members, a little social hour afterwards you cannot beat this on a Tuesday morning. In closing I will leave you with this quote from one of the best to ever play.

“I never rooted against an opponent, but I never rooted for him either”—Arnold Palmer

Welcome to August! We are now one month closer to fall weather. I
am going to start with a bit of humor and reality that most of us can
relate to. I recently saw a cartoon showing a comparison at a large golf
expo with 2 booths with signs overhead of each. The first booth said
new high-tech drivers for sale at $599. The second booth right next to it
said golf lessons available now at half price. Guess what, a very long
line to get the new fancy driver but not a sole in line to learn how to
properly swing that driver! A great example of getting the cart ahead of
the horse I would say. My point is simple, go to one of our golf staff
members for a couple lessons and sign up for the monthly clinics that
are available. Whether you play one day a week or every day, why not
give it a try. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain. We have
one important milestone to report on as Dick Ross bettered his age by
one stroke, congratulations Dick. As your board of directors have
stated a few times July means looking at current tee box selections to
see if anyone qualifies to move up to a shorter tee. This has been done
and yes, we did have a couple of changes that the golf shop is now
aware of. We are now sitting at 173 CHMGA members. As of 6/30 here
are the top point leaders for the Chandler Cup. David Metzger has 163,
Jeffry Holmes has 160, Ken Zweiback has 155, and Pat Mezyk has 154.
Also, do not forget to join the hole in one club. There have been 2 in
the last 3 weeks outside of our Tuesday games so as the saying goes,
anything can happen. Just go in golf shop and sign in for $5.00, we are
at 67 members currently. Let us now look at some past winners.
Scramble with lunch June 11
First place tie with 58. Mike Gleason, Greg Chaump, James Hemler, Bill
McElroy and team of Dave Keebler, Rick Schriewer, Gregg Keidel, Dutch
Schulze.

Third place tie with 59. We now have 171 paid CHMGA members so a big shout out to membership. We will look these over again in January and at that time if you think you have an exception to be made, please fill out the paperwork available in the golf shop and it will get forwarded to the board.

Speaking of handicaps, please remember that there are 3 situations when you cannot post your score. Yes, you need to put in a nine-hole score if that is what you played.

We had a great turnout for the July 4 red White and Blue scramble which took over both Candler and the Links golf course with 192 players. Big shout out and congratulations to Jim Shipley as he shot his age with a smooth 69.
